Amazon.com Review:
This appealing blender looks great, with a rounded triangular shape that marries form and function. It pours perfectly and cleans beautifully, but what we noticed first was the terrific grip on the handle: firm and comfortable, like a great handshake. The lid is also well designed, sealing easily and snugly, with tiny rubber tips attached on three sides to facilitate a smooth release and opening. This blender packs a lot of power, puréeing in seconds and turning eggs and oil into mayonnaise in fewer than two minutes. Five speeds let you whip up everything from chunky salsa to velvety soups; there's also a pulse mode when you need an extra surge to add solids or give something one last stir. As a bonus, this blender looks great on the counter or stores easily in two parts in the cupboard. --C. Whitney-Ward

Editor's Choice:Braun's PowerMax blender is an ideal first blender--not too expensive and still heavy-duty enough for many blending tasks--and is our pick for best blender under $50. It has five speed settings and a pulse feature. The blades are made of stainless steel, which makes them strong enough to crush ice (don't pack the ice too tight, though), and they remove easily for cleaning. The blades, jug, and lid go in the dishwasher, while you wipe the base by hand with a damp towel.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Do Not Buy This Blender -- It Will Break
This is a powerful blender, but it will likely break within a year of purchase.

Consumer reports gave it high marks, but a few months later published a sidebar in which they said that the small white plastic drive mechanism will break. This is a very fragile, delicate gear thingy on the bottom of the blade assembly.

This happened to me three times. Each time I was able to convince Braun to send me a free replacement, but it took a lot of arguing once the warranty period expired. I can't believe that they haven't created a stronger part. If you can't get it for ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Strike two. Cheap plastic parts that wear and break (and you can't fix that)
Braun MX2050 Jug Blender
We have had two of these blenders from Amazon. When new I rated it good. But over a year the first jug lost plastic teeth. The second blender after 13 months of a lot of home use broke. The plastic turning gear on the machine spins uselessly. The motor works great but the plastic assembledge of the machine and plastic teeth on the glass jug is poor. I need a new blender now and I surely say there must be better choices.

I thought this machine was powerful and good. It looks great. They promote the powerful engine. But it is like having a car with a super ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Far too weak
I first used this blender in January 2006. We did not use it very heavily at all. I ordered new blades for it twice and now it won't blend anything. The new blades just about doubled the original price. I thought Braun had a good reputation, but I am throwing this blender away and I don't plan to purchase a Braun product again.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Blender breaks, otherwise I like it!

I bought this blender because of good reviews on Consumer Reports and other sites, and bought it specifically to make food for my baby (as well as other uses). It worked very well for about 6 months, but then the white plastic piece at the base of the pitcher melted while I was blending on on high speed. I should note that making baby food requires blending/grinding grains and dried legumes on high for up to 2 minutes, but my baby food book says that blenders are designed to withstand this kind of work. I was disappointed. I did find that I could order a replacement piece (Amazon had it ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - After all these years - still a drive gear design problem!
As one who works in manufacturing, I know the pressure to deliver a product to the consumer at a price he or she is willing to pay, BUT continuing to produce a product with a long-term design problem is inexcusable. Braun should recall all of the MX2050 blenders due to the design of their drive gear. The plastic gear breaks once too much torque is applied, and the teeth simply shear off.

I have a suggestion for anyone looking for a general purpose blender. Go to eBay in the "Collectibles" area, and look for a good old Oster or Waring - one from the '60 or '70s. No, these older blenders ... Read More
