Amazon.com Product Description:
Sony's new K series of VAIO portable computers is a fine middle ground for those who can't afford the absolute fastest or smallest super-notebooks but don't want to be saddled with a bulky, sluggish bargain-basement offering either. This model, the VAIO PCG-K15, is one of two midlevel units in the K series, thus striking a good balance between cost and performance. Sporting a large hard drive, an upscale processor and the advanced functionality of DVD burning and wireless communication, it is ready for most any situation and environment from school to home to office and any place in between.

Tastefully clad a two-tone paint scheme and reasonably diminutive at 7.3 pounds and 1.6 -- 2.7 by 13 by 10.9 inches, the VAIO PCG-K15 is a stylish and comfortably portable unit. The system is driven by a high-end 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor and a capable alloent of 512 MB DDR SDRAM memory. The video card, an ATI Radeon IGP 345M, is certainly not the pinnacle of 3-D gaming or 3-D animation performance, though it does support dual displays for those times when two monitors are necessary. Furthermore, the flip-open 15-inch XGA TFT display (1024 by 768 maximum resolution) features Sony's new Xbrite technology for superior brightness, contrast and viewing angles than many other notebook displays.

For your data storage needs, the VAIO PCG-K15 offers a large 60 GB hard disk and a DVD+RW/-RW/CD-RW combo drive through which you can burn and play audio CDs, archive your data, watch your favorite DVD movies and record video footage to durable DVD media. The unit is equipped with a number of standard amenities, including an 86-key keyboard with electro-static touch pad, a Memory Stick PRO media slot for data transfers from external peripherals, one Type III or two Type I or Type II PC Card capability, and a pair of internal stereo speakers.

Connectivity options include an IEEE 1394 FireWire port for fast interaction with external devices such as digital camcorders, three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play peripheral connections, a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up Internet and email, a high-speed RJ-45 LAN network connector, and integrated wireless LAN for cord-free network and e-communication access.

The impressive software bundle includes the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system, Microsoft's Works 7.0 productivity suite, Intuit's Quicken New User Edition financial center, and a wide range of Sony's own multimedia utilities. Estimated battery life is somewhat less than stellar at 1.0 to 2.5 hours per charge.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Powerhouse heavy hitter
It does everything I needed and more. Precessor works extremely well while multi tasking (split screen DVD while browsing the web...etc) Its a bit heavy, but for large screen multimedia purposes, whose counting the ounces. Its the best laptop I've ever used. I give it a 5 star

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good performance - low battery life
I am happy with the performance of this notebook, but i had 2 drawbacks. one, the battery life sucks, i just recently purchased a new notebook for mobility and made this vaio a desktop basically. and two, it is bulky. i purchased it online b/c the features where appealing but when i received it was a lot bigger then i expect it. but aside from that, a very good notebook, just not mobile.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent Mid-grade notebook!
Overall nice machine. I get about 2.5-3 full hours battery life, even while watching a DVD. Didn't come with any disks, so make sure you make your own when you first buy. Expensive batteries and AC power supplies.. few accessories. But the sceen/display is amazing! Well built, full of built-in features, and a pleasure to use. Again, the display is truely unsurpassed.

Could be better, but not at this price.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Vaio K15
Overall, a solid mid-level notebook capable of performing a wide variety of functions and multi-media applications. Unfortunately, the down side is a pretty big one: battery life is pretty pathetic. Don't count on more than 45 to 50 minutes playing a dvd on a fully charged battery. I've also had a few intermittent problems getting it to recognize photos stored on my Sony memory sticks, which is kind of ironic considering it's Sony's own proprietary memory storage medium.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good Notebook
I have had this unit for 3 weeks now and find myself liking it more everytime I use it. Very versatile and loaded with some very nice features for the price. The display is exceptional for a notebook, no need to hook it up to my 19" Viewsonic. I was a bit worried about not having any backup/restore disks but was pleasantly surprised to find that it will make you a set if you want, on either a cd or dvd.
The only drawback is the battery life. About 1 hour is all I have been able to squeak out. But considering that I bought it for a desktop replacement, I can live with having it plugged ... Read More
