Amazon.com Review: Although steels often are touted as sharpening tools, few actually sharpen knife blades but do perform the vital task of realigning, or "resetting," edges, which bend when contacting a cutting surface or other hard object. Because this tool's surface contains diamond dust, it's hard enough to somewhat sharpen a blade. While using this steel won't replace a professional sharpening job, which proceeds from coarse grinding to ever-finer grinding at tightly controlled angles, it will lengthen intervals between sharpenings. This steel will also perform better than a steel without diamond dust because it accomplishes the final task of a professional sharpening, which is polishing the edge to a fine point while realigning the edge. The rule is that a steel should be at least as long as the knife blade being drawn across it, and this steel's 12-inch rod handles all household knives. The steel carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Rating: - Diamond hone
I ordered this product based on the Henckels reputation. While there were some ordering issues, they were satisfactorily resolved and I am totally pleased with the hone.
Rating: - Henckels "Diamond" Sharpening Steel
Wasn't happy with this product, thinking the diamond version would last longer than the regular, it didn't. The diamond dust wears very quickly, especially if you sharpen knives a lot. It worked great at first but the diamond dust seemed to come off the steel after a weeks worth of sharpening. Did not expect this type of quality issue from J A Henckels as they make very high quality knives... sorry, but I'd give this one a miss and choose the traditional steel.
Rating: - Great Steel!
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He is a chef, and says that it does an excellent job keeping the edge on his Henckel's 10" chef's knife.
Rating: - A better "steel"
This is much better than an ordinary steel. The surface is flat and the combination of that with the diamond dust really hones the blade edge. The only thing I don't know is how long it will last; I go through an ordinary steel in about a year. Only wrinkle was that I had drill out my knife block to fit the new steel because of its shape.
Rating: - Brought my knives back to life
I bought this sharpener to try and salvage a couple of Henckels knives that my college roommates had destroyed over the past couple years. After watching a video on the correct way to sharpen knives, I used this sharpener and instantly noticed a dramatic change in the knife edge. Would highly recommend.
Be sure to read up on honing vs. sharpening, I've read that those electronic sharpeners can actually ruin your knives, as can incorrect sharpening methods.
