My family bought this machine for me for Mother's Day in '04 for our second home. We actually don't make traditional ice cream much (lots of folks of diets), but I have frozen just about everything else with great success, from fresh fruit (using their simple syrup recipe and a little fresh lemon or lime), to leftover mimosas, to gazpacho for an appetizer on a scorching day. I had this machine now for a little over 5 years, and let me tell you that it's a godsend!! I'm so thrilled to have this great unit!! Every conceivable frozen treat can be made with this machine! It STILL cranks out the most beautifully-made luscious ice cream as ever, like it did when I first got it!!

I've had big fun making great, fresh ice creams for my family and friends!! This is a great machine! You can make a great ice milk in a couple minutes, and the machine will freeze it in 30.... ready to serve while you eat dinner!! It is very impressive to guests!!

I did quite a bit of research before arriving at the Lello Gelato (formerly Gelato Jr.). This little workhorse stacks up to machines that sell for twice the price elsewhere! And Amazon had it cheaper (with Amazon Prime free shipping!) that anywhere else online. Regarding its performance, it does all it claims to do. The motor was improved in this 4070 model to include an auto-shutoff mechanism if the mixture freezes solid, so the motor doesn't burn out. This unit worked well on the first batch, but would never freeze ice cream thereafter. A support person cautioned against using more than a pint of liquid; otherwise, he said, the unit wouldn't work as advertised. He suggested the pint of liquid would double in volume during freezing, thus honoring the manufacturer's pledge that the machine produces a quart of finished ice cream In my opinion, the Lello 4070 Gelato Junior belongs in the "buyer beware" category.
