Rating: - heavy, as expected. Has flanges to cover lid well.
As far as I know (I have the 8" and 10" equivalents of this lid as well), this lid is the only one that has little flanges (?) that cover the spout portion of the corresponding skillet. So less steam will escape. If you want some steam to escape, just rotate it on the pan so that the spout is uncovered. Also, this is the only lid in which it will be dust/flies free, as there is no resulting hole.
When I got the lid, the "self-basting spikes" (see picture) were not on the description list, so I had really no idea what they were for. I thought it might have been a manufacturing artifact. ... Read More
Rating: - Quick - What's missing?
This is a very nice item. It goes great with the iron skillet.
Why in the world does it not come preseasoned like the skillet that matches it?
This seems like a no-brainer to me.
As others have noted the color of the lid differs from the preseasoned and REALLY great skillet also by Lodge.
I have moved away from the Teflon based skillets because of their link with overheating and leaching into cooked food.
I have been pleasantly surpised at how smooth this transition has been.
The price can't be beat and it wasn't purchased at ... Read More
Rating: - Just like the old days, but new
I was so glad to find a good deal for a cast-iron lid to my well-aged cast-iron pan. One thing I forgot is that this lid needs to be immediately seasoned as soon as you get it or it will begin to show rust. No problem, just brush off the rust and bake on a slick finish. Unfortunately, animal shortening is the best stuff.
The lid shipped in record time and I recommend cast iron to the uninitiated.
Rating: - Not pre-seasoned, but it doesn't really matter.
Although this is made by the Lodge Logic brand, the one that I received was not pre-seasoned. Instead of the dark black iron, it was a ligher natural grey. It also rusts extremely easy, which is why it needs to be seasoned somewhat. It's not as much as concern with a lid however, since you're not going to be cooking on it anyways. It works great, I just gave it four stars because I was under the impression that it would also be pre-seasoned as well.
