The Presto GranPappy electric deep fryer fits on a countertop and is so easy to use. Just add oil, plug it in, and in 15 minutes it's heated up and ready to fry. Its sleek, black bucket shape matches form to function-- simple and classic.
The GranPappy holds up to six cups of oil or three pounds of shortening, and it can accommodate up to six servings of food at a time. The internal thermostat keeps the oil at the optimum frying temperature. An accompanying scoop, slotted for draining, is for lifting food in and out or for turning food halfway through the cooking time. The power cord has a magnetic safety connection, so that if the unit is jostled during cooking, the cord will disconnect, shutting power off immediately. After straining the used oil, it can be poured back into the unit and stored, covered by the accompanying snap-on plastic lid.
After frying, unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before attempting to empty oil. Wash the GranPappy with warm, sudsy water and dry it thoroughly; it is not immersible. To preserve the nonstick finish, inside and out, do not use steel wool or harsh, abrasive cleansers. The Presto GranPappy measures 8 by 8-1/2 inches. I used to own a Fry daddy and was looking for something bigger. I ended up buying a fryer that had temperature control and a basket. It was a horrible experience. The other fryer couldn't get hot enough and my food would absorb a ton of oil. So I threw it away and purchased the GranPappy. I love this! It always heats up to the right temp and my food ends up golden and crispy. I only gave it a four because it has no temp control so I couldn't use it for other things(like candy)and I wish it had a basket. It is perfect if you are looking for something to do french fries or egg rolls (my favorites.

I used to own a Fry Daddy deep fryer by Presto, but it was a bit too small. This GranPappy is just about right for the limited deep frying that we do. It does not use a lot of cooking oil, and it heats up fast. It's big enough to fry a large chicken breast, although we use it for smaller things. Cleaning is very easy. It does not have a lid to prevent some limited oil spatter during cooking, so I usually put a piece of paper towel over it. It's simple and it works very well. I use this deep fryer mainly for making tortilla chips. Anybody that has tried my chips raves about how good they are. The Granpappy is perfect because of its size and how quick it cooks. A great machine.
Rating: - Works great, ultra convenient
I've wanted one of these for many years and then I needed one for a recipe and decided to buy one. It works great and is very convenient. I like the fact that you can store the used oil right in the unit and then put the entire thing into the refrigerator. I made homemade donuts which were cooked perfectly. I just got it so that the only thing that I have made so far, but am looking forward to using it more often.

The GranPappy deep fryer is one of the greatest investments I've ever made. I don't fry often but when I do, this GranPappy has performed wonderfully. My coconut shrimp cooks up quickly and evenly and I don't have to worry about the oil temperature being too hot or not hot enough and the best is no messy clean-up afterwards. I love that I can save and refrigerate my oil afterwards thanks to the handy plastic top that comes with it. I didn't even have to buy a spatula to lift out the hot food because one comes with it. This GranPappy is one item I should have purchased long ago.
