The set includes two 12-ounce oval casseroles with fitted lids for covered cooking. The petite size of the casserole best accommodates a meal for one or a side dish, like baked beans.
The casseroles feature durable cast-iron construction. The attributes of cast-iron construction include unmatched durability against warping and breakage, superb heat retention, and even heat distribution. Porcelain enamel coats the cast-iron casseroles to eliminate the need for pre-seasoning on the interiors, which other cast-iron cookware requires. These are "mini-me" sized covered casseroles. A French person might call one a mini Doufeu, as it has the central indentation on the lid on which one could put mini ice cubes. The small interior measures 4 3/4" by up to 3 1/4" wide, and a shallow 1 3/4" in depth.
They are enamel over cast iron, similar to Le Creuset in appearance, however don't expect to put more than, say 7-8 ounces of food in one, to keep the food from bubbling over and creating a real mess.
