Amazon.com Review: Shaved ice was a prized delicacy for medieval royalty, and it still seems luxurious and festive. The Rival Deluxe Ice Shaver, a small countertop appliance, makes a large bowl of shaved ice from a double handful of cubes. Its powerful motor can handle the large, square ice cubes from standard refrigerators, and the suction cup feet help anchor it while it's working. A scoop for shaping and packing snow cones is included; it matches the color of the snow hopper.
There are two bonus fruit-flavor packets already included, but any juice, syrup, or liqueur available can work. (Maple syrup in "snow" is a traditional East Coast treat.) Or, for a more savory approach, try shaved ice with minced shallots and lemon juice spooned over oysters on the half shell.
The Deluxe Ice Shaver cleans up easily (it mostly just needs to be wiped dry). Unplug before cleaning, and be careful of the blade; it is very sharp. The appliance measures 8 inches across by 11 inches high. Rival provides a two-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use conditions. --Garland Withers

I have had my shaver since June and love it. I use it at least 3 times a day. I have been hooked on eating ice since January, so when I saw the ice shaver, I purchased it at Walmart. The first one broke after 3 weeks, I re-order a new one online from Circuit City in July and have been using it faithful everyday.
Rating: - Greatest shaver!
This is the second Rival shaver I've owned. I purchased the first one about seven years ago and finally, between five family memebers and countless guests, I wore it out!! Truly the easiest and best shaver out there for the money. why waste your time on a shaver that requires you to use those pre-formed ice circles? And what happens if you forget to makemore?? Sheesh! The rival takes your basic ice cubes - your own or a store bought bag and makes it into fantastic shaved ice. This IS the product to purchase and own!
Rating: - Nice snow cone machine for the price
I expected this to shave ice very thin, but it doesn't. It's more like snow cone consistency, which was fine with me. I purchased this cause it was less expensive than a snow cone machine, even though I wanted snow cone consistency ice, so if you are looking for fine shaved ice, this is not the machine for you. It's a bit strange to have to have the lid on and be ready to go before you plug it in (only because I was used to the one where you hold the lid down to shave the ice). Some people complained about the hopper to catch the ice as it is small and narrow. You can take it off and just ... Read More
Rating: - Great little snow cone machine
We love our ice shaver. It shaves the ice just to the right texture for snow cones. The only thing I don't like is the shape of the container that holds the shaved ice is difficult to pour the ice out of and some of the shaved ice doesn't make it into the container but stays in the top area. But it's not enough reason not to buy it. We really enjoy ours.
Rating: - Appliance worked well for one summer's worth of snow cones...
...but poor performance, as in nearly unusable, this year. Ice cubes no longer make adequate contact with blade without stopping the motor several times to give unit a shake.
The ice shaving's discharge chute and collection cup are poorly designed. Shavings must be plunged continually into cup as the unit runs; otherwise, the shavings clog the chute.
Replacement blade is unavailable from Rival and after-market, third-party suppliers. Who needs another throw-away appliance?
Cost: $15 on clearance @ WallyWhirld. IMO, not worth a penny more, considering its ... Read More
