Rating: - Handle fell off the lid
We've used this for a year or two, mainly for cooking large cuts of meat. The food turns out nicely -- very tender. We cook it on the low temp and haven't noticed that it gets too hot like some people say.
However, the plastic handle on top of the glass lid snapped off. With hotpads, it is possible to get the lid on and off without burning yourself too badly, so we still use the crock pot.
Rating: - Have that burning sensation?
I have had the Rival 38601 for about 2 years now. When you start to cook in the pot you need to SERIOUSLY adjust your cooking times. It overheats like crazy! Here are a few of my adventures with the crock pot since I've owned it.
I tried chili on low for 10 hours and had burnt beans when I got home. Beef stew? 10 hours on KEEP WARM (after the chili incident) and the sides of the pot were burnt with stew. I lost almost 1/2 the meal. I cooked a pork roast for about 10 hours and it came out beautifully on low when I included a extra liquid in the pot. So... roasts do better in my crock pot ... Read More
Rating: - Cooks Good, but ALL the handles broke!
Well after losing both of the side handles almost immediately after we starting using it, the lid handle broke off after 2 years. The only thing we use this for is potroast, and it comes out great everytime!
Using plastic for the handles is stupid. If we had a better handle for the lid I would still love this crock pot. We haven't had the burning issues, but since we use it to cook pot roasts, there is most likely to much liquid for that issue to arrise.
I give it 2 stars due to the craftsmanship of the handles. A $60 crock pot should last longer then two years, my ... Read More
Rating: - I hate this thing
I've had this crock pot for about a year and a half now and I hate it. I've cooked things on low and come home to find them boiling. However, last week I tried to cook something on high for the first time and after four hours it wasn't even simmering yet. It still has a burning plastic smell to it which is awful. I called Rival shortly after I got it and they told me this is normal. The meal I was cooking on high tasted of chemicals. I don't think it should still smell like it's about to burst into flames after all this time. I've finally decided to chuck it after my experience last week. I've ... Read More
Rating: - This crock pot is a joke!
It cooks too hot on high or low. You can only set the times on high for 4 or 6 hours. Low 6 or 8 hours. What if you want to cook 2 hours on low or three hours on high? You can't manually put it on warm at all, if you want to switch it to warm because your food is done, you're just screwed!
The handle on the glass lid gets burning hot and you have to lift it with a potholder. I get my hand burned every time I use this thing because of that. I just don't think you should have to lift a lid on a crockpot with a potholder when it looks like the lid handle should be cool. Oh, and now, the handles are ... Read More
