I purchased this maintainer for my motorcycle to keep the battery up over winter. This does the same thing as "Battery Tender" but costs half the price. I have two other larger Schumacher chargers that I have owned and used for ten years.

This is a great little unit... I actually own 4 of them. I use them to maintain the batteries on my two motorcycles, the lawn tractor and my Porsche over the winter. They are connect and forget, which is great. Since they employ "float charging" there's no danger of overcharging a battery which can happen if you leave a regular battery charger connected too long. I wouldn't recommend one of these to bring a fully discharged battery back to life since the charging output is so low, I'd use a regular battery charger instead. This charger is really cool. I can plug it and leave it. It monitors the state of the battery and adjusts accordingly. It is really well made! And,despite the fact that Schumacher makes the same unit for Sears, the unit is actually cheaper through Amazon. You also avoid Sears (something I do at all costs!), the shipping is free over $25 and you saved gas!
How can one loose with the reliability of Amazon and Schumacher?

I have a collectors car that the battery kept going low in while its not driven much. On reading and researching trickle chargers, the Schumacher got excellent reviews from several people. I ordered the unit, and when it arrived I found that it had no instructions. Having worked on cars a bit I figured out how to hook the unit up. First thing to mention. There are two different connectors that come with the unit. One is alligator clips as found on jumper cables but a little smaller, used for short term use, and the other are two brass loops used to attach the hook up permenently to the battery posts. ... Have the same product under the Sears name; just left it outside too long in the rain; so I am getting another for the John Deer lawn tractor.
Great price and this is the best charger that You can get at the price. The floating funtion that will not allow for overcharge is a must have feature.
