Product Description: The 204MF includes one pair medium-grit (brown) triangle stones for aggressive sharpening and one pair of fine-grit (white) triangle stones for professional-grade finishing. Their patented triangular shape sharpens plain edges on the flat sides and spyderedges (serrations) on the corners. A groove running the stone's length sharpens pointed items such as fishhooks, darts, awls, and punches. Keyed slots/holes in the abs plastic base precisely preset the stone's sharpening angle to a 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) for thick and thin profiled knife blades. On the end of the base is a 12.5° scissor setting. When turned over, the base's underside accommodates two side-by-side stones (flat side up) for benchstone sharpening. Plastic lid snaps halfway over the base creates a stable hand-hold and a pair of brass safety rods protect the user's hands during sharpening. All of the components fit into the base and the lid snaps on as a cover for portability, or the base can be bolted to a table or counter-top for permanent use. Instructional 204MF DVD and booklet is included.

Hello, Just a short review about spyderco's sharpmaker sharping system. This thing is fool proof. There is an instruction booklet and a dvd training video. I didn't read the booklet but I did watch the video a couple of times, it explains the process really well. I have quite a few knives, sorta a collection. Most of have gotten dull. Hence the purchase of this sharping system. I put the dvd in my computer and the sharpmaker on my computer desk and just followed along. Now most of my knifes are scary sharp. I do 1 or 2 knives a day, usually doesn't take long and in no time my collection will be ... Read More

OK, obviously a lot of people find this a great product. It was a waste of money to me. I've watched the DVD and read the instructions, and it does look easy and simple and I'd swear I'm going it right. Yet it will not sharpen any kitchen knife I've tried. Everything from cheap Chicago cutlery to high-quality Henckels knives. Oddly, it takes metal off, as I can tell from the residue on the stones, and from the blade shape. But it doesn't get sharp. All sizes, all shapes. Nothing. The only thing I've managed to sharpen is a pocket knife; that's like a razor now. Perhaps this is just somehow ... Read More

I used to have a Chefs Choice 100 electric sharpener, which I had to give up during a move. Instead of buying another one, I gave the Spyderco a try.
The Chefs Choice was very easy to use and produced a factory-sharp edge in a matter of seconds. It did not go beyond the average factory sharpness, though.
The Spyderco requires a tiny bit more skill and a few more minutes of care (cleaning, putting together, etc.), but you can get an edge that is literally razor sharp. It is also much friendlier to your knife, it never scratches the sides and it takes off just enough metal to ... Read More

great little product, does exactly what it says, includes a manual and a great instructional DVD, takes out all the guess work if you're new to sharpening knives and a wide variety of other pointy sharp things. very compact and stores in its own shell. good addition to a hunting kit or survival pack where you might need to re-sharpen your sharp pointy things.

Gets my knives sharp lickety-split. Really sharp. Push-cuts newsprint all day long. There are also some even finer stones that don't come with the set - I'm going to pick them up next.
