Rating: - Funny and very un-PC
I saw this movie when it first came out now 30 years ago. Arkin and Caan pair up to deliver probably the funniest police duo ever. The chase scenes, special effects (as when their car plunges off a overpass into an elderly couple's apartment), and the humor are better than just about anything you can find in a similar movie today. Plus the actors just wouldn't be as classy as Arkin and Caan. By the way, this was the movie that Lethal Weapon basically copied for many of its ideas. Rating: - Odd Couple cops
Two unexceptional cops with opposite personalities are assigned to protect a mobster from Mafia hitmen. Tired plot and standard car chases overshadowed by varied characters, humorous script and suitably gritty 70's film style.

I remember seeing this flick back in the mid 70s as a kid - I don't know how I got into the theater, but it blew my mind: a funny, non-PC buddy cop comedy/action romp that basically was ripped off later for LETHAL WEAPON - and you have to see the infamous shoot 'em out in the men's bathroom to believe it: have you ever seen a UFC-style chop-socky transvestite assasin that's a dead ringer for Bowie? You will here! Worth the price of admission alone!

Filmed with the anarchic energy of a live action cartoon, this is one of the first odd-couple buddy cop action comedies. James Caan and Alan Arkin act each other off the screen as violent foul mouthed bigoted San Francisco detectives whos messy working methods spill over into their chaotic private lives.
The non-pc humour jars a little, but hey-this is the 70's, the cars, the music, the clothes, it's Retro heaven.
This rarely seen comedy is a Tarantino favourite that now enjoys something of a cult status.

Short and simple! A True Classic! A shame it has not been released on DVD yet. Great Characters, Lots of over-the-top Action, Stunt-man's Timeless Masterpiece. Starsky & Hutch, Running Scared, Lethal Weapon (all Buddy-buddy cop movies) have taken from. Although its humor will most likely offend virtually every one in some way, the blend of action & comedy never-the-less works. 4 Stars for a great Stunt Team. Oh, and NO CGI!!! ;-)
