Amazon.com: Considering that Carly Simon likes being on stage about as much as the rest of us like being audited by the IRS, the very existence of this one-hour concert (recorded in 1987 on Martha's Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts) will bring joy to the hearts of the singer-songwriter's many fans. Too bad it couldn't have been just a little better. Simon herself is fine (despite her admission in an interesting, entertaining new DVD interview that performing is something she still dreads, she doesn't seem particularly ill at ease during this show); the musicians in the band (like saxophonist Michael Brecker, bass player T-Bone Wolk, and others) are excellent; and there are plenty of good songs (including hits like "Nobody Does It Better," "Anticipation," and, of course, "You're So Vain"). But the whole thing is hampered by a weird, reverb-laden audio mix that makes it sound as if Simon and the band are lip-syncing (which, in fact, they were). Still, viewers who can disregard that will find this to be an effective showcase for Carly Simon's appealing (if not especially compelling) music. --Sam Graham

My wife LOVES Carly Simon, and especially the Vineyard Concert from some 20 years ago. I taped this concert live off of HBO when it was aired originally, and we have almost worn the VHS tape out, playing it dozens of times. I bought this VHS tape as a backup, figuring my original would wear out sooner or later.
Well, it's the same... almost.

When I found this DVD I had just finally found and purchased a Laser Disc version of this performance (an even rarer find!), but I thought well, if I'd bought the LD version after having only had the VHS version for so many years... Why not have the DVD too! Boy, am I glad I got it when I did from the Best Buy that I found it. Because it was the only one on the shelf and I've never again seen on on the shelf anywhere since then and that was in 2004 when it was a new release! I must have been a very limited release! The most sought after DVD of Carly's performances. A limited release in 2004 by Grandstand Entertainment. Very difficult to find. The most memorable performances Carly has done. If you can find it, BUY IT !!!

This must have been one heck of a concert to be at. Carly's having a blast - and sounding (and looking) great. I haven't been listening to much of her stuff lately, but when I went to find this DVD and discovered that it's now out of print (and as I soon found out, pretty rare), I had to get a copy. The search was worth it.
Check out other reviews for the song listing. The video editing is good. There is a slight softness in the video which suits the content and location. It appears to have been shot in the evening, and that light is often naturally soft. Another reviewer ... Read More

I saw this years ago, and i have yet to buy it yet,
i had it recorded on VHS when it hit HBO in the late
80's. I do have one question for the viewers, once in
awhile on VH-1 they will show Carly's song "Your so
Vain" from the same setting, but in a rather different
outfit, White blouse, and blue jeans. Is this now
in the DVD format? That was a great performance!
But i definitely give it 5 stars!!! great buy, but
now that it is out of print, its a little bit harder
to find, but definitely worth the price.
