Editorial Review:

Description:
Sunny Honeypossum wants to fly, Bobby Bushbaby wants to help, and Balzac de Chameleon knows just which fascinating feathered creatures to tell them about.

With help from Uncle Balzac, Sunny, and Bobby learn about many different kinds of birds, and soon find out why most birds can fly and other animals can't. Meanwhile, wacky animated Francsico Flamingo flaps by with Flamingo Facts, and introduces young viewers to counting with "The Number Dance" and to the fun of rock 'n roll phonics with "Animal Doo-Wop". Plus, this episode features GeoKids bonus segments about leaf-cutter ants, elephant trunks, and starfish. Hosted by Sunny, Bobby, and Balzac - three amazingly life-like animal characters - each GeoKids episode is filled with award-winning cinematography, irresistible songs, and fascinating animation. Created by Emmy winner Hank Saroyan of Jim Henson's Muppet Babies, GeoKids is certain to entertain and enrich the whole family.

Amazon.com:
Sunny the honey possum watches an eagle glide gracefully across the sky and muses about how wonderful flying must feel. After listening to Uncle Balzac poetically discuss the funny-looking flamingo, Bobby the bush baby comes to the conclusion that it is feathers that enable birds to fly--you can imagine the outcome of his test flight! Sprinkled between a multitude of beautifully photographed scenes of birds in the wild are two musical sequences, "Alphabet Rock" and "Animal Doo-Wop," that teach kids about letters and the sounds they make. No GeoKids video would be complete without the animated Francisco Flamingo. This episode's "Fascinating Flamingo Facts" discusses the special names for groups of animals (such as schools of fish and gaggles of geese), and "Count to 10 with Francisco Flamingo" helps kids learn to count. Eventually, Uncle Balzac explains that a bird's wings are what enable it to fly, and he examines the beautiful tundra swans and the anomaly of the flightless penguins.

Preschoolers instantly love Sunny, Bobby, and Uncle Balzac, the realistic puppet figures created by Emmy winner Hank Saroyan of Muppet Babies fame. What's more, the rapid succession of live animal footage, rhyming verse, song, and animated segments will captivate even the most energetic 2-year-old. --Tami Horiuchi

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Factual Fun For Everyone.
This video series is a must who prefer enducational videos to pointless miandering tv shows. If these videos were released a few years AFTER the Baby Einstein series became so popular (instead of a few years before) they would be hot!
I love these and my 3 year old loves these more. They feature 3 very life like puppets in a "natural setting" as uncle balzac (a chamelion) teaches 2 young animals who about different animals of the world. With beautiful national geographic footage of animals in nature (no animals in zoo's here) they cover different aspects of animals. With fun sing-alongs, ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good Fun, Memorable Songs
My preschooler has had this video for at least a year and still enjoys watching it--we also like Nat'l. Geographic's Really Wild series. We love the songs, and I find myself humming them for a few days after watching the tape--definitely a 5 star review for our family.

I consider this a high quality series for young kids; I don't expect my 4 year old to learn a whole lot by watching TV, so this isn't much of an issue for me. She has learned a bit, but mainly looks forward to the music, animal footage, and cute puppet characters. So, great entertainment, and stimulates curiosity ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Hyeractive and annoying
We received the complete set of GeoKids videos for our 3-year old for Xmas. They really stink, which is disppointing given the Nat Geo name. It's apparent that the producers of this series aren't familiar with recent studies showing that early video watching is linked to Attention Deficit Disorder in kids, particularly when the visual images jump quickly from one scene to another. The GeoKids series is frantic -- lots of quick cuts from one scene to another, lots of video where the screen is split into 4 or more sections, lots of annoying frantic noise. I'ts like a training tape to develop ADD. ... Read More
