Joel McCrea could play parts like he did in The Oklahoman in his sleep, but one of the things that made him infinitely likable in this kind of role was that he has a soft-spoken, easy going charm that made audiences warm up to him. He was never too hard or boisterous, but solid, kind-hearted and dependable. The Oklahoman is an example of standard McCrea fare, not outstanding, but certainly not the worst of the genre.
