Rating: - ENJOYABLE FISH OUT OF WATER/ROMANTIC COMEDY!
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn's chemistry keep this predictable, but likable comedy afloat. Hawn plays a rich selfish snob who's life needs purpose and Russell plays a blue collar guy who gives her life purpose. After a run in that leaves Russell stiffed for a job he does for Hawn, Russell finds a way to get paid and then some! The story is contrived to say the least, but the kids and the rest of the cast seem to be having fun in this slightly crude and cute comedy. Rating: - opposites attract
The word classic is used way too often, especially when it comes to films and books. However "Overboard" is as close to a modern-day classic as any movie has ever gotten. It's like all the suns were aligned to make the perfect movie. It has a great script, an excellent director (Garry Marshall) and some of the best performers in the business. That's why it's almost impossible to believe that "Overboard" was a huge bomb, both commercially and critically when it came out in early 1988.
