Flouting traditional design boundaries, Villeroy & Boch embroiders the translucent bone china with gold filigree on an aquamarine background, then splashes large tangerine, sapphire, and fuschia flowers across the surface of select pieces. The overall effect is a combination of golden opulence-hence the name Aureus, which means gold in Latin-and playful exuberance.
A shallow dish somewhere between a bowl and a plate, the Aureus 7-3/4-inch dish features just the right depth to keep a side salad or pie a la mode from spilling over the sides. Available here in a set of six, the dish shows a narrow aquamarine border overlaid with a circular floral pattern. One of the delights of Aureus is the variety of filigrees found on the different pieces; the mix-and-match florals and geometrics create a lighthearted sensibility for dinner parties and showers.
