Product Description: Zojirushi Fresh Brew Coffee Maker EC-BD15 features a 1.5 liter stainless steel vacuum insulated carafe with excellent keep-warm performance for fresh tastingcoffee. Unlike other coffee makers with a burner that quickly bitters the taste of coffee, the Fresh Brew Stainless Steel Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker comes with a stainless steel thermal carafe that keeps the coffee hot for hours without altering the taste. It also features an electric timer clock module to set the coffee to complete brewing by the desired time.
Amazon.com Review: Lots of folks dislike the burnt flavor that coffee gets when it sits in a glass pot over a heating element. To avoid this, coffee shops often brew right into large thermal pots to keep the coffee warm without it becoming overcooked. The Zojirushi Fresh Brew does that, too, but in home-sized batches. It looks great, too, with a glossy black body and stainless steel carafe and brew basket.
To brew, lift the lid and swing the water outlet spout to one side while the filter is being loaded; the spout will return to its proper position when the lid is closed. A small red ball in the water gauge makes it extra simple to read. And an electronic clock module also serves as a timer that will start the brewer at a specified time. The carafe's lid is designed to be on during brewing, with a small cap to help keep the heat in after it's ready. The Fresh Brew also has a pause-and-serve function that stops the flow for 30 seconds while a cup of coffee is served.
To clean the brewer unit, use a solution of white vinegar and water, following the instructions in the accompanying booklet. The unit is not immersible. The exterior can be wiped with a damp soft rag; do not use abrasives or scouring pads. The filter reservoir is removable; clean with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. The coffee brewer measures 15 by 12 by 9 inches (includes carafe handle when unit is completely assembled), and it uses #3 cone-shaped disposable paper filters. The Fresh Brew comes with a detailed instruction booklet. Zojirushi guarantees its products with a one-year limited warranty. --Garland Withers

Rating: - It's OK for its Price
The Good: Coffee is brewed quickly, tastes fine, and it stays hot.
The Bad: It doesn't pour well. The lid is crazy and hard to line up. The #4 filters the mfg. recommends have to be cut down because they're too tall. The Bunn stainless steel pour-over is a much better coffee maker but it's also twice the money.
Rating: - Poor Design
Thermal? Even with the extra little cap provided, the stainless steel pot keeps coffee hot about 2 hours. We had a glass thermal coffee pot before which kept the coffee hot for at least 4 hours. The lid is hard to tighten, has ridges that are very uncomfortable to turn and it's hard to tell if you have it on tight. When you pour, you can only tip it so far or it spills all over. It looks very stylish on my kitchen counter, but that's the only thing I like. I wish I had my old coffee pot back, but they don't make it anymore.
Rating: - I like the insulated carafe!
Be sure you buy the BD15 vs 17. This is the height of the unit and the 17" will not fit under most US counters. The carafe does keep the liquid hot for 12 hours as advertised. I don't know why people rate the turn top as difficult to loosen. You don't have to screw it down so hard-dah! I am a scuba diver and you learn to tighten the knob and then back it off just slightly...this can be true for many things in life! I switched to this type of make because I am tired of a glass carafe which has no insulatory capacity and also breaks very easily. Buy it!

Just packed up my second one to be returned. I never even got to the point of making coffee. Both units leaked water out of the main tank, and not just a little. The first one leaked so bad that I had several cups of water on the counter before I dumped it back out and this was while I was trying to put coffee in the filter. Don't waste your time.
Rating: - Zojirushi Better Than Braun Thermal
I have the Braun KF 600 and it stopped working after a few months so I purchased the Zojirushi and was pleasantly surprised. The Zojurishi brews a better, faster pot of coffee and keeps it hotter in the thermal carafe much longer than the Braun. It is also half the price of the Braun. It is rare that you find find a better product at a lower price, but the Zojirushi fits the bill. I am pretty picky about my coffee maker and I am very impressed by this product.
