This would be the perfect, inexpensive, well designed mandoline if only the rotating/hidden bar on the bottom held more than a french fry slicer. Maybe I'm expecting too much but... they almost made it to the perfect mandoline. There's no narrower blade than the french fy slicer so you can't do narrower julliennes or the 'basket weave' pattern for potatoes and other hard veggies. If you're only looking for quick, uniform slicing and french fy (1/4") size julliennes, this mandoline is definitely for you. It's well made, works great and is priced really low. Go for it!

NEver had a mandoline before but read a few reviews and decided on this one. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Having fun experimenting with new vegetables and different preparations. So easy to use, clean and takes up so little room. Did cut my finger once but I learned to ALWAYS used the safety thing even if I think I dont need it. I am really enjoying it, would recommend it for anyone!

First off let me say I'm not a chef.. but I make a great salad and this mandoline is perfect. It slices in many different widths quickly and efficiently, and so SHARP.. be careful, I sliced my pinky finger being too impatient so heed the warnings and use the great holder when getting close to the end. The unit comes with a safety plastic blade guide which I always apply after using and cleaning. I bought another mandoline after this one for travel usage, a kyocera toy.. the Zyliss is a major tool compared to it. Cooking is a game to me. Fun not work. I always love finding new toys to play with. The Zyliss Mandoline is one of the best tools in our kitchen. It slices veggys perfectly! I can slice a tomato with perfect slices before I could cut one uneven slice with a knife. Also perfect french fries, potato chips (yes, paper thin and perfect) and I could on and on. I am thankful for the reviews I read before purchasing my mandoline for the safety tips. It cuts so fast that a vegetable is down to the blade before you know it so please use the holder which also works well.

This mandoline, like most, is really sharp. Do yourself a favor - always use the guard that protects your fingers from the blade. As I was slicing a tomato without the guard, and thinking to myself, "..this probably isn't a real good idea," I took a slice off the end of my thumb the other day! The plastic is very high quality - and dishwasher safe! A really good buy.
