Kitchen & Housewares : Soleus Air MS-09 Oscillating Radiant Heater

Rating: - Excellent all around heater
With low and high settings plus oscillation, it will never be frigid inside again. This heater is an excellent choice if you are trying to save energy and dont like the burning smell some heaters give off when they first turn on. The Soleus Air is a very safe solution to a cold room, yet never gets too hot and wont burn anything. The only complaint I have is that the timer makes a slightly noticeable noise, especially when automatically turning off, and sometimes it will continue to make a faint clicking sound after shutting off. However this is a minor detail since I dont use that feature often, and only a concern for those who sleep right next the their heaters. Anyhow, this bad boy can do the job from across the room in minutes!

Rating: - Great heater!
I use this heater often when I'm sitting at my computer or watching TV because the baseboard heaters in my apartment take forever to heat up if they are turned off and don't regulate the temperature very well if they are left on. I usually leave it on the low setting, as the high setting is too warm unless it's 8-10 feet away and oscillating to heat up more than one person. (It will take a long time if you're trying to use it to heat up a room; it's designed to heat up whatever it's pointed at!)

It also stays completely cool to the touch; my cats were very curious about it when I set it up initially and I didn't have to worry about them getting too close to it. (Plus it shuts off when it's moved or tipped over, another great feature!)

I'm not sure how well it would work when you're sleeping, as it's fairly bright and any blankets you have on would probably block the heat from reaching your skin anyway.

Rating: - Beware of Amazon.com
Until recently I've noticed something very interesting about the Amazon.com's review system. It seems that about 50% of the time when I give a 1-star review on a product it will not get posted! It actually makes sense if you think about it because Amazon.com is trying to sell as much products as possible thus having a lot of negative reviews would certainly hurt the sales.

I've previously written an in-depth review on this heater and it was never posted by Amazon. Since I don't want to repeat those again, let me just briefly tell you that you won't feel anything if you're more than 3.5 feet away from the front of the heater or if part of your furniture (i.e. arm rest or seat back) is blocking where this heater is pointing. Furthermore if you let it point towards your face at 800W, you'll need a good pair of sunglasses because it's too bright at a close distance (at 3.5 feet).

Rating: - Best room heater
We use it to heat one bay of our garage used as a workshop. Silent and effective with good controls. Swivel feature is a plus. Lower wattage than most, uses less electricity. Highly recommended.

Rating: - Like a Caribbean beach
This is a great heater! With radiant heat, it doesn't have that "electric heater" feel or faint smell. Instead, even at low power, it makes me feel like I'm stretched out on a beach in Tobago under the Caribbean sun (minus those UV rays!). The low-power option is a terrific energy-saver, using so little electricity to such great effect that I can simultaneously run another heater in another room without blowing my circuit breakers -- I haven't had to use high power yet. It works quickly, bringing a small room from 62 degrees up past 70 in a minute or two. There's no fan, so it's totally quiet (which means I don't have to turn it off when I'm recording telephone interviews). I also like the ability to set a timer to turn off the heat after a set amount of time, which can be useful if you're in and out of the room a lot. The only negative is that it's on the floor with the controls on the bottom, a long way to stoop to turn it on or off, so I wish it had a remote.
