The fan is bigger than anticipated. Whisper quiet operation...not quite. It is louder than the 510, but not to the point that it interferes with ones sleep. We do like the fan, and it does help circulate the heat better in the bedroom.

Made the mistake of buying this fan over the web mostly because it is a pain to return things this way. I was looking for a quiet, but powerful fan. This vornado is powerful on the higher level (though the claim of moving air 70 feet is wishful thinking at best), but you might as well park a jet in your home with all of that noise. It is suprisingly noisy even at the lower speed with the motor making a high pitched clincky/ whirly, rythmic noise as if something was off center. I have a few cheaper fans at home that are quieter. In short don't waist your money, or at least buy one from a retailer that you can promptly return it to once you hear how loud this thing gets.

Rating: - Greatest midsized air circulating fan ever
I purchased this fan to move air warmed by my ventless gas logs fireplace.

It is very directional, powerful, and very quiet. Great investment that will pay for itself quickly.

Rating: - am i spoiled?
or is the new vornado fan a mere shadow of the older versions? buying this fan was a no-brainer based on my experience with other vornado products but i am really disappointed. it is much noisier than its predecessor (which we still use), the three speed control isn't nearly as handy as the adjustable control and its not as well made.

we ended up relegating this model to the garage and hunting for an old school vornado. using them side-by-side confirmed our impressions. we won't spend the extra money to buy another unless vornado figures out that saving a couple of bucks in manufacturing is ruining their reputation as a maker of quality products.
