Oddly, one of the things I most like about this blender is that it reminds me of my electric train when I was a kid: solid, heavy, powerful. The motor sounds metal instead of hybrid or plastic. And finally a blender that will really crush ice without cavitating (forming a bubble around the blades). I cannot believe you can get something of this quality for such a low price.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Why did I think I needed multiple speeds?
Based on other customer reviews I purchased this blender. As soon as I received it I washed it and made a batch of daiquiris (outside temps have been in the 100s), and within seconds I had a perfectly blended, refreshing beverage. I have previously used a variety of blenders with multiple speed settings, and after using this blender once I don't know why I ever thought all those multiple settings would be useful. The motor on the blender is powerful, and though some might consider it loud, you only need to run it for a fraction of the time other blenders require.

Best blender I have ever owned!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great blender !
I really like this blender. I only use it to make frozen drinks so I need one to be tough. With only two speeds, That is all I need. It is a bit on the noisy side , but I don't care! As long as it crushes the ice I need, a few minutes of noise is not a problem.

Works well
Easy to use and clean

Cons:
Loud
Components are not of the same quality as KitchenAid (might be more reliable though)

Who should buy this mixer? Anyone who is fed up with a mixer not working as it should, but still wants a quality mixer at a good price.

Coming from my 3 speed KitchenAid I notice that this is not as high of build quality. The glass is thiner, the base isn't heavy cast metal, the blades aren't as heavy. It is also much, much louder, and only has a single speed (or 2 if you count pulse). The KitchenAid used a rubber coupling that helped keep noise to a minimum, but was also a weak-point as it would fail every couple years. Also, on my older model, the blades couldn't be replaced without replacing the jar.

All that being said, the reason I bought this mixer instead of a new KitchenAid is I was fed up with the design of the KitchenAid and wanted something more reliable and better functioning, and so far this fits the bill.

No more unblended ingredients, and seems to have the power to crush through anything. With the metal coupling it should be more reliable. It can also be left blending while I step across the kitchen and doesn't have to be held down like the KitchenAid.

I do notice that air pockets sometimes form, and if they do, just turn off the blender and use the pulse switch once or twice.

So far I am satisfied with this blender, although it isn't perfect. It works, and that is what matters.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Professional All-The-Way
I read the reviews before purchasing and I'm glad I did because this a true professional blender, just like the bartenders use.

So far, I've made hurricanes, mai tais, pina coladas, and margaritas and the crowd was thrilled and so was I. The ice was perfectly crushed (I used bagged and also my countertop Haier HPIM35W Portable/countertop Ice Maker, which I recommend. I do not recommend using that half moon kind that my refrigerator makes, but that kind will do better if you let the ice sit out for 10-15 minutes to soften a bit.

Does what it states, but better than the rest with an all-metal drive and super sharp blades! Bravo, Oster!
